King celebration
Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson was the keynote speaker at this year's annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's Centennial Hall. The Power of One event also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Juveniles in Justice
The Figge Art Museum is partnering with Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø to present "Girls in Justice" and "Juvenile in Justice," a nationally acclaimed project by photographer Richard Ross. "Juvenile in Justice" will be at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's Teaching Museum of Art beginning March 9.
'A Green River' triumphs at college festival
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's production of "A Green River" got a standing ovation at the Kennedy Center's regional college theater festival, but students will have to wait until March to see if they will be invited to the national festival.
Symposium Day¨CSocial Justice
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's 2015 winter-term Symposium Day on the theme of Social Justice will be on Tuesday, January 20. Faculty, guest speakers and students will discuss race, sexual violence, social awareness and reconciliation.

River Readings will continue its seventh season with author Jessica Lamb-Shapiro on Tuesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. in the Wilson Center. Lamb-Shapiro will read from her first book, "Promise Land: My Journey Through America's Self-Help Culture," a tour of the billion-dollar self-help industry that explores American devotion to self-improvement.

Professor of education Chuck Hyser discusses Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's partnership with Rock Island's Longfellow Elementary School. Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø education students have helped design parts of the Longfellow curriculum, but the college's partnership extends beyond the education department.

Residential program focuses on student experience
Beginning in the fall of 2016 Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's residential life program began to focus on the student experience from year to year. The new model includes ties to courses and activities outside of class.

The $4.2-million Kim and Donna Brunner Theatre Center opened Thursday night to the public, with its first production, "Rabbit Hole," in its Black Box Theatre. After nearly a year of Hodge Construction transforming the upper two floors of the old Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Center, Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø moved its theatre arts department into the renovated building, which features three performance spaces.
