Rachel Nandelenga, a senior pre-medicine and neuroscience major from Cary, Ill., was honored at a ceremony this fall at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in downtown Springfield, Ill.
Students present results from Rock Island water line survey
The city of Rock Island and Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø partnered over the summer to engage Rock Island residents in an inventory of water service lines in the city. As part of a regional effort to remove lead in drinking water, the state of Illinois asked communities to survey their water pipes to gauge how much funding would be needed to replace them.
Spivey¡¯s memorial mural replaces tears with joy
Art/psychology double major Aykeem Spivey '24 donated his time and talent to paint a mural at the Rock Island Center for Math and Science, in honor of a beloved teacher, Kris Hays. Hays passed away from cancer last year.

Jonathan Enslin has been selected to serve as Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s vice president for college advancement. Enslin, who now serves as vice president for college advancement at St. Norbert Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø, De Pere, Wis., will join the college Jan. 1.

A father¡¯s son makes his connections
When Peter Xiao learned his father was near death in late 1998, he immediately flew to his homeland to be at his father¡¯s bedside. Xiao Qian, one of China¡¯s best known writers, never regained consciousness before passing away four days after his son¡¯s arrival. As often happens with adult children who suddenly lose a parent, Xiao is becoming aware of how enormously indebted he is to his father.

Professor celebrates first solo art show on campus
More than 30 of Peter Xiao¡¯s paintings are featured in his ¡°Sighting at Augie¡± exhibition in Wallenberg Hall, inside Denkmann Memorial Building, through March. A reception for the campus community and the public begins at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Slough drainage, restoration project ensures future beauty
Work to relocate a primary water line from under the Slough to under the Slough Path will allow for easier access to the pipe in the event of future needed repairs.

The Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choir, under the direction of Dr. Jon Hurty, will perform concerts in California in March 2024. The voice ensemble will sing a selection of traditional and contemporary choral works. The choir is known for its innovative programming, attention to detail, and musical excellence.
