Director Jennifer Popple¡¯s decision to set her Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø production of As You Like It in the 1960s is one of the most appropriate changes in time-setting for theatrical material... Such shifts sometimes seem gimmicky, or are better in concept than execution, but here it works, and works well.

Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's Department of Theatre Arts will put a groovy spin on Shakespeare¡¯s "As You Like It" during the first two weekends of May. ¡°The pastoral comedy of 'As You Like It' and the revolutionary decade of the 1960s bring forth such similar themes," said sophomore Trevor Jablonski, who is dramaturge for the production.

More than 70 students took part in the first "Take Back the Night" event on campus in at least five years, during national Sexual Assault Awareness Month. "The threat of violence prevents all of us from enjoying life as free individuals," said Dr. Jane Simonsen, who teaches women and gender studies classes. "We gather tonight to protest, because fear should not be a way of life."

How Senior Inquiry helps students stand out

Every Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø geography major has completed an extended, original research project since 1971, making geography the forerunner for Senior Inquiry.

It's Just a Race

A member of the women¡¯s track and field team designed a poster for her graphics design class that caught the attention of coaches, professors and college administrators. A banner with Kayla Bushey¡¯s design now hangs at Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s Paul V. Olsen Track. As she explains, the message is simple: don¡¯t get nervous about ¡°race,¡± whether it¡¯s a run or a different skin tone.

Fossils

John Oostenryk, assistant curator at Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s Fryxell Geology Museum, says fossil explorers will find marine and invertebrate fossils in the area from the Sirulian and Devonian geologic periods and also plant fossils, although they are more frail.

Spring 2015 Academic All Americans

The Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Vikings had three seniors repeat as Academic All-America selections. On Tuesday, the Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Sports Information Directors of America released the list of spring Academic All-America honorees. Runners David Devore and Becca Sund were on it for the second straight year, while David Voland landed a spot on the   list for a third straight year.

Learning communities

What are called "learning communities" have been around awhile. They typically involve combining two or more courses in different academic disciplines to approach topics in new ways. Taking these student communities abroad adds an extra dimension.

Retiring faculty

Four retiring professors and a coach were recognized for their years of service and invaluable contributions to students and the college at Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's 155th commencement ceremony.

Ethics winners

Dr. Dan Lee of the Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Center for the Study of Ethics has announced the winners of the 10th annual Ethics Essay Contest. The winners will be recognized at the Celebration of Learning May 6.

Students discover history of local writers

Students discover some of the most important writers in America lived and wrote in the Quad Cities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To bring attention to this neglected body of literature, they researched and wrote essays about the writers and published an anthology at Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's East Hall Press.
