Symphonic Band Concert: Celebrations and Remembrances
The Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Symphonic Band will perform both new and traditional works in a concert themed "Celebrations and Remembrances."
Program
¡°Celebrations¡± by John Zdechlik. The work was commissioned by the Medalist Concert Band of Minneapolis, in 1990 celebrating its 20th anniversary.
¡°Hymn for the Innocent¡± by Julie Grioux, a musical remembrance of those loved and lost.
¡°Sojourn of Dreams¡± by Kevin Walczyk. This work remembers the life of a high school band director from Oregon who died suddenly while on a mission trip in Africa. In four continuous movements, it features folk songs and instruments from Zimbabwe.
This concert features faculty soloist Dr. Samantha Keehn performing John Mackey¡¯s ¡°Harvest Concerto for Trombone and Wind Ensemble.¡± It features the cycle of pruning, rest, and rebirth found in a typical growth cycle of the vine.
And finally, in celebration of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther¡¯s Reformation, the band will perform a commissioned work by James Stephenson entitled ¡°This is most certainly true¡± as well as Jim Curnow¡¯s ¡°Rejouissance,¡± a fantasia on ¡°A Mighty Fortress is our God.¡±
