What courses will I take in my first semester?
How your first semester schedule works
You don¡¯t have to build your schedule on your own. An advisor in the Learning Commons will create your first-semester schedule before Orientation using:
- Graduation requirements (general education and major)
- Your academic and career interests
- Placement results (math and/or language, if needed)
- Any college credit you¡¯ve earned
- Scholarship or athletic requirements
- Your course preferences
Which classes will I take?
Most first-year students are enrolled in:
- FYI 101 (or Honors FYI 101)
- FYI 100, a course designed to help you succeed in college
- General education courses (Learning Perspectives)
- Any recommended support courses
- Required scholarship or athletic courses (if applicable)
You might not be in a course in your major right away ¡ª that¡¯s normal. Many majors do not have required coursework in the first semester. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to speak to an advisor, review your schedule, and register for a J-term class when you attend Orientation and Registration.
