Artist statement
Here I lay my body out on the wall for all of you to see, in pieces but also together, in my most vulnerable state. In my collection I urge you to understand each piece as a fragment influenced by emotion, perspective and physicality. These pieces lay wild discomfort upon me to display them for any to view and it was quite uncomfortable for me to undergo artistic critique on many of them. However, the human essence in self-reflection is the most pure and beautiful to me and I would like to share what that feels like in my experience and how it may be translated into creation. A distinctive element of my artistic process is fluidity and flow; I do not necessarily plan my pieces before they are created. They brew in the soul and flow out through arms, hands and finally the fingertips. Among the 2D works, there are a variety of mediums including ink, crayon, and colored pencil, each utilized to convey differing tones and textures. Understand these are but a small portion of the physical strata of my body (for, it is a jumble of many articles), I just happen to hear these layers the loudest at the moment.
