Environmental Management and Forestry Coordinated Degree Agreement
Requirements of the program:
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø is affiliated with the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. Through the Cooperative Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Program of the School of the Environment, a student in a five-year coordinated program can earn both a Bachelor of Arts degree from Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø and either the Master of Forestry or Master of Environmental Management from Duke.
This 3-2 cooperative program generally requires three years in residence at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø followed by two years in residence at Duke University. It is also possible for a student to spend four years at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø to complete the B.A. degree and then attend Duke for two years under a 4-2 cooperative program. Students should work closely with the advisor since completion of the requirements alone does not guarantee admission to Duke University. Admission to the University is based on grade-point average (recommended minimum 3.4), recommendations and test scores. Students should initiate the application procedure in the fall term of the junior year.
Coursework at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø must include BIOL 140 and 386, ECON 200, GEOG 303, MATH 160, 220 and 230, and one term of statistics. Depending on the student's intended concentration at Duke, other recommended courses include BIOL 327, GEOG 273, an introductory physical geography or geology course, and CHEM 131. A good preparation in the social sciences is important even though such preparation may reduce the number of advanced courses a student is able to take in the natural sciences. In this program all general education requirements for Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's Bachelor of Arts degree must be completed together with a departmental major.
Requirements of the Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Bachelor of Arts Degree. Student is responsible for:
- Completing a minimum of nine (9) terms of full-time enrollment at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø.
- Completing a minimum of 90 credits at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø (transfer and AP work cannot be included).
- See that all General Education coursework is complete prior to enrollment at the receiving institution.
- Seeing that all transfer coursework from the receiving institution meets all requirements of the Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø transfer policy (see catalog).
- Communicating with the Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø faculty advisor for particular advising needs.
- Applying to graduate within all published deadlines (see Academic Calendar).
- Arranging to have official transcripts sent directly to the Office of the Registrar before the intended date of graduation.
