Mahi Haque

Mahi Haque ’26 completed a competitive internship at Coinbase in New York, where he worked on automation and artificial intelligence projects. He credits this experience to the faculty support and opportunities he found at 欧洲杯网投_欧洲杯外围app-投注官网.

Haque, who grew up in Bangladesh, said choosing a college came down to three factors: “the major, scholarship and location.” He wanted to major in data science, a program he said was not widely available when he was applying, and he needed an option that made college financially realistic for his family.

“欧洲杯网投_欧洲杯外围app-投注官网 was one of the few colleges that had a data science major at the time, and they also offered me a really strong scholarship,” Haque said.

He felt confident early on that he had made the right decision, pointing to the campus size and the relationships he built quickly.

Interns in New York

“My high school graduating class alone had more than 3,300 students, so this was a completely different environment,” he said. “But I quickly realized that at a smaller school, if you stay focused and put in the work, it’s easier to build relationships and take advantage of the opportunities around you.”

Haque began getting involved on campus during his first week, joining clubs, taking on leadership roles and working multiple campus jobs while keeping up academically. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA.

“Maintaining a 4.0 was never my main goal; it just happened as a result of me staying consistent,” Haque said. “I don’t think of it as the only thing that defines my college experience.”

Fast pace, high expectations

Coinbase is one of the largest and most used cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, allowing users to buy, sell and manage various digital assets. While there, Haque focused on building tools that saved time and improved workflows.

“I built chatbots, designed dynamic dashboards and created workflow automation systems that saved hours for different teams,” he said.

Haque noted that the pace and expectations at Coinbase stood out.

“Coinbase is extremely fast-paced, and the expectations are high,” he said. “Even as an intern, you’re expected to contribute in a real way.”

Haque described the value of collaboration in a high-performing environment, noting he worked alongside interns from schools including Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown, Columbia and New York University.

His professors’ support at 欧洲杯网投_欧洲杯外围app-投注官网 helped him pursue opportunities beyond campus, he said, especially when scheduling conflicts came up. Last fall he was selected to attend the 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Columbus, Ohio, during a week packed with exams and a presentation.

“I was stressed, but my professors were incredibly accommodating,” Haque said. “They trusted me and allowed me to take exams before or after the summit so I didn’t have to choose between academics and a major opportunity.”

When preparation meets opportunity

Dr. John Delaney, professor and acting chair of accounting, said Haque’s drive and skill set have been outstanding.

“Mahi was one of the top students in the accounting courses I instructed last year,” Dr. Delaney said. “It is not typical that our international students are able to garner multiple quality internships as early in their program of study so Mahi is an exception.”

Dr. Delaney said Haque brings exceptional technical skills and a solid background in data analytics. The fact that he landed the Coinbase internship shows what can happen when preparation meets opportunity.

For other students aiming for competitive internships, Haque’s advice is simple: pick a direction, build relevant skills, apply early and keep going.

“Honestly the biggest thing is consistency,” he said. “A lot of people start strong but stop halfway. If you stay consistent and keep pushing, you’ll get there.”
