DESCRIPTION:Dr. Stephen Hager\, professor of biology\, will present&nbsp\;"Cosmos and the Work of Alexander von Humboldt" in the third of this year's Frieze Lecture Series "Ideas That Changed Us."\n\nIn the series\, Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø faculty will talk about books that mark significant artistic\, scientific or political movements.&nbsp\;Dr. Hager will discuss von Humboldt¡¯s work as a holistic observation of all of nature. The German naturalist is considered by some as the first environmentalist.\n\nThe series\, a partnership between the Rock Island Public Library and Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø\, will offer faculty presentations on Thursdays at 2 p.m.: Oct. 20\, 27\, Nov. 3\, and 10.\n\nNovember 10:&nbsp\;"Beloved" by Toni Morrison\, presented by Dr. Ashley Burge\, assistant professor of English. Morrison¡¯s literary masterpiece has faced multiple banning attempts for its frank depiction of the horrors of slavery.\n
