He was the \;ninth chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 2009-2013.\n\nThe Curtis Lecture was established in memory of Ellwood F. Curtis\, who served as president and vice chairman of Deere and Company during his 42-year career with the Moline-based manufacturer.
